Default Check engine info!

Hi. My 2001 Audi TTQC check engine light up. I will have service in 800miles for a 40K service. Is the check engine light relevant to it?

Thank you.

No, it is not related to the service. Is the check-engine flashing or steady? If it is flashing, you shouldn't drive the car. If it is steady, you can wait, but pay attention to how your car is behaving. Personally, I hate not knowing why a check engine light is on.

If I were you, I would have the code pulled before you go to the Audi dealer/independent to have this fixed.

There's a reason that the CEL is also called the "money" light.

Get the code read at your local parts store.

The light is on steadily. No changes on the performance though. But still, I'm observing it's run.. no weird vibrations or sound..

Thanks for the advice. I will have the code check. Does local auto part stores like "auto zone" or "pep boys" have it?

Most of them do.

FYI code that is stored is an OBD II code and is probably an emission related problem. The codes are in the form P0302.

If they can't pull the code it may be Audi/ VW specific so you would need a Vag.tool or Vag.com to check it. These codes are not normally related to emissions and are not part of OBD II spec.

Here's a list of P-codes and a corresponding list of Audi/VW codes.

Bad, your engine is going to explode soon.

Get your car scanned by someone with a VagCom: http://vagcomlocator.com/tinc?key=cS...ormname=VAGCOM

It will ususally just cost you some beer.

Why go to the trouble of finding someone to have it scanned if the light went out. If it comes back yes, but not now. Mine was triggered because I filled my petrol tank with the engine running. The light went out a few days later.
