KII-USB is what I use. If your computer is relatively new, it should work just fine...

Default I'm using the HEX CAN usb with a HP laptop running Vista

No issues at all. I went HEX CAN because it useful on the newer cars. Its not that much more than the KEY which is all you need for the cars you have right now but is forward compatible when you buy newer ones.

Default Ted, I did HEX CAN also. Our A6 requires it.

Without Vag Com I was not going to be able to change rear brakes pads due to the electric emergency brake actuators. That one job alone will save me enough to pay for the Ross Tech. When I priced the brake job at the dealer and he told me Approx $1000 for front and rear, I told him I guessed I would have to do that myself. He began to explain about the need to actuate the emergency brakes electronically. I was able to tell him "Oh yeah, I know but I have Vag Com in my laptop." Was kind of satisfying :-) All I have done so far is scan for codes. My TT was code free except for some junk about the central locking system that I cleared. Pretty good for a 92000 mile car.
