Default Is $816 a fair price for timing belt work?

getting it done very soon being I have nearly 120k on the car now. First t-belt job was at 57k. I have a major coolant leak and thought that I might as well do the timing belt while they're at it. Wasn't looking forward to this as it is almost time to pay property taxes and now it is more car maintenance. Better to have the job done though instead of $10K for a damaged motor.

Default Re: Is $816 a fair price for timing belt work?

excellent price compared to Calif ...
dealer gave me a 1800 price ...

this Audi inspection thing is ?? very strange =
if they find your TB in bad shape ( or even good shape and state it's need replacing) they require you to replace it to get the up to 105k (however many years it takes ) warranty ...
i had mine inspected at Audi dealer and was told TB had excessive wear and it needs to be replaced = no warranty to 105k till it is fixed ... also because they said that in writing my 3rd party warranty will not cover the TB if it breaks because i was warned about it's condition ... so i had it replaced today at a non dealer (34k on TT) - i have to say ( & the mechanics) the old TB IS in excellent condition -you can still read all the writing on the back of the TB ..ribs are excellent .. had the water thing and other belt replaced too .. i was planning to replace TB it in 2010 but now i'm good till how long it takes me to get to 105k ...

i recommend those with low milage that go to a Audi dealer to get a 2nd opinion .. which then might lead to getting a 3rd opinion if the 1st 2 don't agree ???
