Need help! SD area Allroad needs ECM flash to pass smog!
i'm in san diego. my 2001 audi allroad has a MIL and OBDII codes P0421 & P0431 after it "failed" a smog test. i say "failed" because it passed the emissions part but not the functional (OBDII self checks) part. i googled the codes and found this...

this describes my problem exactly. i called miramar audi and hoehn audi and they want to charge me $125 to do the flash. imo that's just wrong of them to try to make me pay for a flash that would fix a known problem...it should have been a recall issue if you ask me. anyways, can someone out there do the flash for me? please let me know...i need to register my car. thanks!

http://www.vaglinks.com/Docs/Audi/C5/Audi_TB_01-03-05_Readiness%20Quick%20Reference.pdf</a

if you just reset the codes in VAG-COM, do they come back?
I can do that much for you, but an ECM flash like that needs to be done by a dealer.
Are you chipped or are you stock?

Re: if you just reset the codes in VAG-COM, do they come back?
yes, i had a friend use his vag-com to clear the 3 codes that were there. 18 miles later one of them (P0421) came back and a new one (P0431) showed up too. the other two haven't come back yet. at least not that i know of...we didn't use the vag-com to read the codes the second time just an obdII reader. i'm hoping that by flashing the ecm per the audi technical bulletin that they won't come back, otherwise i'm looking at bad o2 sensors or worse. i had a feeling that only a dealer could do it, but i'm still hoping someone out there can do it. thanks for your help!
oh yeah...i'm stock.

can the warm-up catalyst threshold be adjusted in vag-com?
so i'm wondering if instead of getting the flash in this tech bulletin...

if the vag-com software be used to tune the warm-up catalyst threshold settings individually. if someone knows of a way to do this please let me know. thanks!

sounds like it could more likely be sensors, but *shrug*
try a different dealer. Which one did you go to? Miramar sucks, but Hoehn's good and I've heard good things about Escondido
