Default Do'oh...a bottom-end rebuild for the stupid Civic...parts ONLY with a huge discount...

$900! Would have been $1100 normally and the Rebello job we had done last time was $3500.

Given the low number of races we're managing these days, it almost hurts to pay that amount...particularly as we have to get two good motors together.

Seems like the bearing failed and that caused the cap and rod to break...aparently a common problem on #2 cylinder on that motor.

Do'oh...why do I love racing again :-/

Default A wise man once said "I don't care how much debt I die with."

Who could that be ?

I have now added a CRX Si to the fleet here. $100 to do the deed, and then trailered it back from Ithaca last week. Broken timing belt, 4 bent exhaust valves, bad water pump (that's what did in the belt) and a ***** tensioner. $110 dollars in parts, and today the little dear fired up on the first crank. Gotta chase down a few leaks, but it runs and idles and revs and all that other crap. Yeehar. The fleet can now be described as "The Ides of TSR".

Did you scatter a $3500 Rebello motor ? Ouch. I gotta call Dave re: E31 head for a 240Z...maybe a whole L24 240Z motor. Ouch again. What did that wise man say about dying and debt ?

Don't know crap about Hondas. Haven't owned one in 20 years. Initial impression - those guys must get bonuses based on how many extra fasteners and brackets they can add to the engine bay. Yeesh. VW's still win for serviceability.

Default Just came from under the stupid corolla myself.

Thought the starter motor was bad, and tried to take it out to test it.

And I end up having to remove the oil filter and the header to get to the *&^k starter motor.

The strange thing is, the motor works fine in mine hands when connected to the battery out of the car. ^%$&^*!!

Spend another hour putting everything back and she fires up fine now.

My best guess is, the ground on the starter were blocked by those 15+ years old engine bay dirt.

Default sounds like it could be a solenoid problem...

or were you connecting the battery to the solenoid?

Also, how were the teeth on the starter and flywheel?

Default yeah, the Rebello motor went kaboom...

Acually it's a super clean install (no extra crap) but I guess Honda parts are still over-expensive and we've been burned with non-OEM stuff and don't want to invest in high-performance (illegal) parts when the oil system seems to be a problem and the motor only lasts 25-29 hours anyway.

Now we have enough history, the mode will be two motors, run one for 25 hours and rebuild. The CRX has the exact same problem...#2 cylinder failure.

Default I wonder...

If this is why OPM never goes .040 over on their CRX's. Don't think the stock cylinders can handle that big of an overbore. The Honda recommended rebuild is .010" over.
