As long as its NOT A TIMED EVENT- insurance will cover damage. The Subaru Legacy which landed on its lid at LimeRock was covered by insurance. He even gave them the in-car video. I'd say any damage caused by another driver would be their responsibility.
If you're dragging your car- its timed and you're probably on your own.
