Default Why competission cars use huge rims? They have bigger "unsprung mass"?

Default bigger/longer contact patch. tire widths are limited. by going to a larger diameter wheel...

you get a bigger contact patch.

Default No, common misconception

The size of your tire contact patch can only be changed by changing your tire pressure, or the weight of your car, period. If your tires are at 30psi (pounds per square inch), and your car is 3000lbs., then you have 100 square inches of contact patch. It's that easy. What different sizes of tire do is to change the *shape* of the contact patches, nothing more.
