Default M&S Tires for SSR Competitions?

I'd like to get Mud & Snow rated tires for good rain/snow traction and so I can (legally) pass through California chain control without putting on chains on my S4 wagon (should arrive this weekend!). Tirerack didn't list anything for the 17x8.5" SSR Competitions that I'm eyeing. Anyone have any recommendations? Rain/snow traction is important, but I'd like to keep as much dry handling performance as possible.

(yeah, yeah, I could have entirely seperate snow and summer wheels, but I'd rather avoid that. . .)

Thanks!
-Jeff

Default Dunlop SP-Sport 5000's seem to be really popular.

Default Are Pirelli P7000 Supersport M+S?

Searching this forum, some posts say the P7000's are only summer tires, but then others claim they are mud and snow rated. Tirerack's and Pirelli's websites don't mention the M/S rating anywhere. According to Tirerack, they would fit the SSR Competitions, and have pretty good reviews (with great wet traction and so-so snow traction).

Thanks!

Default Believe there are two different versions....

....an all-season and a "summer" version. I wouldn't bother with them, I've heard they get noisy with age.

Default P7000SS

Mine sounded like a baby being beaten with a cat after only 10k miles. I hate those tires and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. The traction and ride quality wasn't great either.
