Default Michilin Pilot SX-GT tires...what do you think?

A couple of months ago, I think European Car Mag had an article on these rubbers in a 16" size. They said they were really great with good traction, wear and little road noise. But they said that the size was 225 45 ZR16. And I looked for these in Tire Rack and Discount tire ads for pricing and they only offer VR rated tires in the SX GT category..did EC Magazine screw up or did both tire/ rim distributors screw up?
When I get my A4 1.8TQSTip next year the rims and rubber are getting changed first thing on the list. I like Michilins (because they are on Viper's) but I have only owned a Jeep Wrangler so sports car tires have never entered my mind.
What is the concensus out there about rims/tires combos..just curious. What are you guys using?(summer/winter)
I personally like the TSW Trophy wheels and and I want good wear for half insane driving/half sane driving.
Let me know Take care

Default OH I forgot..

I want to get 17" rims instead of 16". What is a good tire size for 17". Is it the same (225/45ZR16&17) for both 16 and 17?

225/45-17 is a good fit. I can't comment with first hand information, but I've driven a BMW 325, my dad's, with Michelin's, and they were great in the dry, but scary in rain. Granted they were an older Michelin tire, but they had that same type of tread pattern found on the MXX3 and SX GT. Dad hated the car so much when it rained that he sold it. I think it was the tires.

My Toyo Proxes T1+ in size 225/45-17 evacuate water very well though. The traction in the dry is extremely impressive as well. JayP has a set as well, and is happy. Tread wear is rated at 200, and looks to be wearing well so far. Better wear than the SP8000s I had, I think.

Er, do you really think it was the tyres !

I would have thought how scary the car (!?) would be without the Michelin's !!!

A little while ago I posted a comment on Dunlops compared to Michelins, I refuse to even consider an A4 with Dunlops after having Michelin Pilot Hx's on my 2.6Q, I found them vastly inferior, (you can tell from the handling on loan cars without looking).
As for the Pilot SX 17"'s these are standard on the S4 (See picture in registry) and I think they a great in the wet or dry.
YUP RUBBING IT IN AGAIN. JUST CAN'T HELP IT.

I upgraded the Contis on my 99 Passat 1.8t to 215/60VR15 Pilot XGT VR4's. There is a vast difference; they are quiet, and handle great in the wet. They are a different tread design from the SX GTs. Very happy with them!

Default Hey...no comments from the S4 gallery

Just joking...and dreaming of your car. What color again?...I had lunch with Corey S today (Wett 1.0 Bar 1.8TQM)..and we were just trying to imagine what the acceleration was like....we had big ole grins on our faces all the way to the restaurant. Must be nice.
