Replace your 'check valve'! CEL/hard starting cured
symptoms:
-rare rpm hunting at idle
-everytime I filled w/ gas, it was a hard start. Had to keep turning it over until it caught. Then, it kept wanting to die- had to keep revving it for abit.
-dropped idle sometimes and threw a CEL
-lean engine code/evap
Cure:
replace check valve! Old one was melted! It is near the exhaust manifold so it makes sense. anyway, it's a simple solution takes a couple minutes. LOCATION-just behind IG MODule, airbox.
Prepare to go into sticker shock w/ buying this simple little one-way valve!!
BTW- install the correct way- it is a ONE WAY valve

got a part #?
I think I may replace mine too. Already did the ICM 2 years ago w/ HUCO.
My symptoms only seem to occur on rare occasion. It's always when the weather is winter-like. Hard to start and I have to give it some gas and it starts up. No surging. No CEL.
The only other time it will be hard to start- just stop the car and turn it off. Go upstairs and come back down. Start up usually no problem,- will get CEL. After few days, will clear itself. (my VAG doesn't run on my new laptop w/ VISTA- pos OS).
This only seemed to start after I got my GIAC K04 std program and installed Bosch 5 bar FPR. AWE did say that the previous install of the regular GIAC K03 program (soldered at Tyrolsport) they did a crap job (showed me before he removed it) and recommended that if I could get a new ECU- get one and keep on hand). I got one, but never transfered the chip.
Think that the crappy solder job could also cause these problems? or that my ECT sensor is bad again (replaced 5x in when I got new remanufactured AEB engine last year (5k on motor, but turned out to be defective stock ECU that I replaced after the APR K03 program made the engine run lean w/ K04) 2 thrown rods and $6k+ spent.
Anyhow, might as well replace this check valve. Maybe it'll help 'cure' my problem.
