I thought I'd found the problem with the replacement of the vac lines to the EG valves. Nope.

Only other clues are a persistent 18265 (P1857) "error message from ECU- intermittent"

Next step is check fuel injector o-rings (is there an easy method)?

Lambda load test (although it sounds tortuous to the transmission)

If I can find the O2 sensor connectors I'll try to measure volts & ohms; thought I'd found an easy route under the pass side noise insulation but no measurements possible..

Since I have no easy way to measure fuel pressure is there a VCDS measuring block that's reliable for that?

I have (since trying to cure these codes) changed spark plugs, sealed air box, checked vac lines and replaced a couple. Oh and a new Bosch MAF from AudipartsUSA

Misha says to check the harness to the MAF but other than visually how does one do this?

Thanks, Jake; but what does "tone it out" mean, and is an overlay harness some kit type thing or a junkyard/new one? Also. this assumes I can get at the other end of the harness.

After seeing how brittle some of the vac tubing was I hate to "wiggle or twist" the harness!
I see it must be done, though.
Had a'96 E320 whose harness was set to disintegrate at 250k miles. What a mess.
