Changing your Audi's brake fluid is recommended and most conveniently done when performing Audi brake rotor or pad service. Did you know that in a 3 year period (average of 15,000 miles a year) drivers depress the brake pedal approximately 225,000 times? Brake fluid is made of a glycol oil base which inherently attracts moisture from the atmosphere. Overtime the brake fluid becomes more contaminated with moisture, changing it's composition and affecting it's ability to stop the car. It also lowers the boiling point of the fluid. This is dangerous and decreases the car's stopping power in emergency stopping situations, where high temperatures are generated from the hot rotors and pads and then into the brake calipers (which function using brake fluid). Audi brake fluid flush should usually be performed every 30,000 miles or 3 years. This is especially important in parts of the country where high humidity is common. Check the owners manual or look at the brake fluid reservoir cap for recommended spec.
Using the correct type of brake fluid is important. Ravenol DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 Audi brake fluid meets necessary fluid specifications. Ravenol brake fluid's additive formulation provides the best braking characteristics in all conditions and offers full lubrication in ABS systems, hydraulic braking, clutch systems, and gives reliable performance in everyday driving or in the frequent braking conditions of extreme stop-and-go city driving. Ravenol GL-4 is classified as high performance gear oils. Ravenol gear oils (aka transmission fluid) are specifically engineered for European transmission requirements. Ravenol has formal approvals from ZF transmission, the world largest German transmission manufacturer.
The latest manual transmissions and differential designs require unique performance characterized gear oils to ensure long life performance. Ravenol gear oils provide the proper friction balance required for manual transmission syncros, ensuring smooth consistent shifting, even under high RPM load (racing) conditions. Due to it's unique formula, Ravenol gear oil supplies excellent extreme pressure (EP) characteristics, low pour points with a high viscosity index (film strength), and also provides extreme high pressure absorption (shock load) capacity. Ravenol gear oil is available for hypoid and non-hypoid transmissions, providing excellent aging resistance for extended change intervals. Ravenol gear oil is the right choice in providing maximum protection for your specific European application.
Why Change Your Manual Transmission Or Rear Differential Gear Lube?
Plain and simple, systems with moving parts such as bearings, gears, and syncro rings meshing with one another will eventually require servicing. Over time, metallic particles from the interaction of these parts contaminate the gear lube. Significant amounts of metallic particles present in the gear lube can accelerate wear in the bearings etc. For optimal longevity of both the manual transmission (stick shift) and the rear differential (Quattro / 4Motion / AWD models), Blauparts recommends changing gear lube every 60,000 – 80,000 miles.
