Default lutch slips at high rpm only around 5k and higher! Advice anyone?

Hi Everyone,

I have 41k on my car and the clutch slips badly at high rpm only. Usually 5k or more I have the 4.2L engine on my S5. Tried the high gear at low speed test but clutch holds fine. Car drives like normal if I stay in the lower rpm range. Any clue what the the issue could be?
Googling high rpm clutch slip did not yield many results seems its a rare thing.

According to dealership they say the clutch and flywheel need to be replaced. Since the clutch is a "wear and tear item" its not covered by warranty except if a factory defect can be blamed. My car is still under manufacturers warranty would it be advisable to do a new clutch/flywheel swap at the dealer in case a warranty claim could be produced. Really though I want to avoid the dealership due to the high cost compared to the indy shop.

What do you guys think? Could there be a chance that something awkward is going on or simply a worn clutch given the symptoms?

Thank you...

Slipping under load in higher gears is a classic symptom of a bad clutch. The torque comes on in the 4.2 at 4000 plus rpm and then it is the pure physics of the engine trying to move the mass of the car against resistance and the clutch is the weak link. Clutch and pressure plate should always be replaced together, along with the throw out bearing.

Agree with FlorAudi. You likely need a new clutch. Unfortunately, 41K miles would fall more into wear-and-tear range than factory defect range.
