A8 / S8 (D3 Platform) DiscussionDiscussion forum for the D3 Audi A8 produced from 2003-2010 and Audi S8 produced from 2006-2010
I have a 2004 A8. About 8 months ago I got the "light sensor defect, use light switch" message. At the same time, I had noticed that the side mirrors went dark and would not reverse. I took it to the dealer who said to replace the sensor in the rearview mirror, they would need to replace the rearview mirror for $1000. They suggested just disconnecting the side mirrors.
They disconnected the side mirror and that relieved the dark mirror problem, but not the "auto" light problem and the sensor issue.
I recently bought a used rearview mirror and installed it. The light sensor error did not go away, i.e. no change (note that I did not rehook up the side mirrors).
I read on this forum that simply removing the fuses and putting them back in could fix the mirror and sensor problem. I tried that today and no change with the sensor (again side mirrors are disconnected).
I also noticed today that the inside headlights don't turn on with any switch position and the outside ones come on for low beam and high beam.
I would like to fix the lighting system and get the auto light working again. Any help would be appreciated.
