Default Things Done With My A8L MMI

Found the netbook, light and small enough for the trunk of the A8L. Loaded Media Portal on it, movies in it, RF remote to navigate. TV is on and nothing else can be put on the MMI. It's time to button up everything.
Now the kids want monitors in the back too... The sound is great.

Cheers,

Louis

Wow...that's pretty cool. How did you set these set ups, such as tv and laptop? Is it easy to do?

Actually it's not. I'll have a write up after I button up everything. There are so much you can do with the netbook.
I ordered a VGA to RCA converter from Amazon
Install media portal on the Netbook, load all the movies in it. Get a pc remote, rf is the best because it doesn't have to be inline with the receiver, it can be in the back and it still works.
-The laptop must be configured so that when the lid is close,it's still functioning and output to the VGA monitor.

The good thing about this is, I can watch movies or TV while waiting for the family shopping for hours.

Cheers,

Louis

Thanks Johnny,
I'm glad I get to know the MMI 2G from this A8L (although I've had it in the Q7 before I got this car). I think the design for integration is wonderful. My brother who has a new Pilot without anything of these things, he has a 7" screen also, but I couldn't find any documentation on the net on how to integrate a rear view camera, tv or even movies. Well, I told him no engineering is like Audi engineering - the worst and the best at some cases, to me mostly BEST.

Cheers,

Louis

Ha!
My brother wants the same thing in his wife's Lexus SUV and is envious of your setup.
We cannot find a way to make it work on that vehicle either so I told him to buy an Audi

Was thinking of doing similar with Raspberry Pi and RaspXBMC, and control with Android/iOS app. Just need the AUX-in harness adapter.

Default Integrate a Netbook or laptop with MMI 2G

I had sometimes to show how good a Netbook is integrated to MMI system. I forgot to load some MP3 to see how well it plays with the Netbook, but it will be done nicely. It's a long video, but the set up is pretty easy and solid.
I'll find an old 15" monitor to put in the back for the kids on a long trip or something... :-) Foget these dinky tiny 7" monitors.

Cheers,

Louis

My Experience with Audi MMI 2G:

1. Devices that require MOST optical cables: Will be recognized by the MMI system - No need to be turned on using VCDS. TV tuner (added) - NO CP. Navigation DVD (retrofit) - NO CP.
2. NO MOST optical cable can be left opened - Must have loop for the system to work.
3. Any devices has no MOST bus and only CAN bus, must be added using VCDS. RVC controller 4E0910441- need to be enabled and turned on.
4. CAN BUS 19 gateways are configure different for all AUDI cars, must be configured to match the current options - NO CP (changed from 4E0xxx468E to 4L0xxx468B).
5. MMI doesn't boot or freezes - Use the LOOP to bypass and isolate the failing device or MOST line.

Cheers,

Louis
