It seems to me that the 3.2 engine has less of this issue than the 2.0T engine. Given that 3.2 is a regular V6 and 2.0T is a turbo, maybe turbo is the cause?

Between 2003 and 2010 I had a 2002 model A6 3.0 and it used oil at wat I considered a higher rate than it should - between oil changes (every 10,000 miles) it would go to the bottom of the dip stick 3 or 4 times - this was a major factor in me getting rid of the car. Then 2 months ago I bought a 2010 model Q5 3.2 with 15,000 miles on it and after having adding another 2,000 miles it seems to have used nearly half the length of the level range on the stick. I did read an articl in a newspaper three of 4 moths ago where the writer explained that modern engines use more oil and he specifically mentioned Volkswagen. It seems to me from what I have read here that there are different experiences but I can definitely say that Audis do use more oil than what I have been used to in 1970s, 80s 90s model cars that I have had of other brand names. My advice would be to ask the dealer if you are concerned - and also do some research on the internet to see if there are other reports of high oil usage in modern engines.

2010 3.2 with 30K miles.
It burns less than 1/4 Qt. between oil changes(every 5K miles)

I have an 06 2.0T with 81K miles on it. No consumption at all. I change my own oil at 7,500 mile intervals. Now, I do the same with the 2011 Q5 with the 2.0T. It now has 20K miles on it. It has needed a quart added to it at 4,000 miles (of the 7,500) but I wonder if I'm partially to blame as I used 5W30 weight oil during my last oil change (Mobil 1 of course, this is what BJs carries). I will move back to the recommended 40 weight oil with my next oil change and see if that makes a difference.

The Q5 is driven mostly highway as you can tell by the mileage.
How is your Avant on oil? I assume it is also a 2.0T. Any difference in consumption between them?

And by the way, I love your S-line Avant. Really nice color!

My 3.2 Carbon Maker doesn't burn a drop of oil (as measures on the dip stick). But remember, FSI engines are notorious for fuel dilution. So oil that might be getting consumed is being replaced by fuel.

My 2012 Q5 2.0T has not consumed any oil. I check both MMI and dip stick. I changed the oil filter at 1K then 5k and last week at 10k. No issues, other than heated seat, lack of heat that will be corrected under a TSB Love the Q!

2011 Q5 2.0t. I add 1 qt. every 2700 miles. Peoples experience here is not consistent. But I'm really pay attention to when I add the oil.

I have a 2013 q5 2.0T and have no oil burn after 1,100 miles of driving (mmi oil display is still full). I'm quite sensitive to this since my old '09 A4 used to burn a quart every 1,500-2,000 miles. I hope this model doesn't have this issue since its annoying to fill a quart every 1.5k miles or so since I drive a lot.

You only have 1100 miles. Give it some time and you'll burn just like all the others.
