ABS sensor issue or the new joint is dirty. Start by pushing the sensor in further.

Thank you for your input, I'll make sure to seat the sensor in further. The original sensor was damaged by the tone ring after the installation of the new axel from what looked like being seated in too far so i was apprehensive about pushing it down all the way. What do you mean by the new joint is dirty?

I had this happening on my A6 when my wheels were very far out of alignment. I would come to a firm stop and the brakes would sort of thump. Hard stops didn't cause it, and slow stops didn't. Moderately firm stops did it almost everytime.
I never got a chance to look into it - but noticed my tires were getting ruined and bought two new tires and had the entire car aligned. No more thump....maybe that's the issue? |

The Axel is a figure skating jump with a forward take-off. It is named after the Norwegian skater Axel Paulsen, who first performed the jump in 1882.
It's an AXLE.
