Run a good brand of synthetic 5w-40.
The creaking in the door panels is bothering me too. It happens in my 05 Allroad, but not in my 01 A6. Overall, my 4.2 A6 is still creak free after so many years, and has better quality materials inside (roof liner, pillar trim, leather on the doors, wood trim). I suspect that creaking is occurring inside the door panel, will eventually take them off and see what's going on. Spray some silicone. |

Great 5w40 it is. I suspect a motul or elf is quality oil for this car.
Yeah, creaking is annoying but I guess it is an older car. My previous 01 e320 was a tank and had no creaks or noise whatsoever. If there was something however, I knew it was something major (cat converters, suspension, etc). Oh well! |

Yes, I run Motul x-cess 8100.
Strange, Audi interiors generally last better than BMW, but the creaking in my AR is not helping with this generalization. |

I have some left over elf/total I used in my Volvo so that should work!
Yeah those Benz are were really the last decent ones, IMO. Too many computers now adays! lol Well, looks like I just fixed both dome lights. Went to remove them to re-touch the solder joints as per the articles and after alittle prying, they both now work. I'm sure they will turn off again but at least I know they aren't completely dead! Now to program that homelink, fix the safety switch for rear windows and refresh the headlight lenses! |

I am thinking of using Castrol Full Synthetic when I get mines this weekend. Local store carries the Castrol that Audi uses and not the blend found everywhere else. Question, has any one used an oil flush agent? Is there any benefit and/or down side in using an oil flush given the millage on these cars? I will like to do it to clear any build up if any but not sure because these cars can be so sensitive some times.

Tip: after you've wet sanded & buffed out the headlights to get them like new, clear coat them or have a body shop do it. Will prevent them from dulling / oxidizing again.

I used this to fix my windows.
Completely destroys the functionality of the lock out switch, but at least passengers can roll the windows down. Window Lock Out Switch Dead |

Wow thanks for the tip and switch article! For the headlights, could I just put some laminex or clear vinyl over it instead of clear?

Yes you can, that's what the headlights on my A6 have.
I don't know the material, but I had a shop do the headlights for me. Best $100 I ever spent. |
