Default Help finding timing mark of flywheel

Read all the articles on timing the 3b, disregarding the timing marks on the crank pulley. Bentley and both the (well documented) articles on TB r&r show a port in the bell housing through which the flywheel timing mark can be seen.... I've been at this all night and can't find that port.

I use a flashlight pointing through the mess of wires and hoses/tubes and can just barely locate that stupid window. I've done it dozens of times and it still takes me a while to get the light just right so that I can see the window. Then, finding the mark on the rusty flywheel is the next challenge. Once you find it, put some white or yellow paint on the mark. On my 200q20v sedan, I found it the first time with all the plumbing out of the way. I was redoing the hydraulic pump system and the crankcase ventilation hoses, so it was easier. On my avant, I painted the mark when I did the clutch.

I just went at it again, I find 3 round ports on the driver's side of the transmission housing, of course since they are on the side of the housing I can't see to the bottom of the ports if they are in fact ports. The articles I've perused indicate top of the housing drivers side.
I'm looking at it with several lights but can't see anything that looks like the port shown in the articles and Bentley.

anyone have a hint? arrrgggh

Kneale is right it's a bit of a PITA to see the window on a 20v.

Wow, Yoda, I've never seen that window clearly enough to think of taking a pix. Great job!! Hope the OP realizes that it's down the side, not on top or bottom.

thanks for the help
