Default Anyone Ever Put a 6 speed from an S4 Into an Allroad?

Anyone Ever Put a 6 speed MT from an S4 Into an allroad? As I understand it they have a different final drive than the ones used in the allroad and A6. What do you guys think the the pros/cons of an s4 6 speed vs an allroad or A6 6 speed

I'd like to hear it - see it, and know if it's possible....

Several did and I about to do the same since I needed a tranny rebuild anyway. The upside is that it eliminates problematic oil pump, lines and cooler and you gain much better gearing ratio much better suitable for actual road car, not some offroad vehicle which allroad is not.

What's needed:
- S4 tranny
- A6 rear differential EUU or FVN (4.11) - bolts right on.
- Move Allroad front flanges to S4 tranny

Everything else stays the same and you can enjoy much better geared allroad.

What about speedometer calibration? If the final drive ratio is different, it needs to be programmed into the cluster, no?

I have a rebuilt S4 tranny in my built 3L Tial 605 AR and I love it! I'm not sure that any speedo calibration was required but the gearing is definitely more road worthy and from what I have heard, brings the highway cruising RPM's down significantly. That being said, I think the TDI tranny might be even another step further in the right direction. Just my .02.

If no changes are made to the engine, than swapping the allroad tranny for an S4 tranny would result in slower acceleration due to the higher gearing. The allroad has the low gearing not only for offroad use, but to move a heavier car with the same grunt as other Audi vehicles.

The main advantage of using the S4 tranny is the better gearing for highway cruising, to help get slightly better mpg's.

It is possible to replace the 5th and/or 6th gear in the allroad tranny with S4 or TDI gears, to keep the same low gearing for acceleration while dropping the highway cruising RPM. Advanced Automotion is probably the best source for that.

Great feedback guys, i agree without engine mods, it would result in slower acceleration. Fortunately the AR is getting a full stage 3 build. I went down and got an 6 speed A6 parts car with no drive train but with rear diff, and also all the brackets, which I need and the actual s4 6 speed and various other other Audi parts , i'll toss some pics up when the truck is unloaded.

What's the point of putting all that money into a Stage III build to make it as fast as it can be, and then changing the drive ratios so that it's slower than it can be.
Sounds like a huge waste of money to me. I think you need to decide whether you wand a highway econobox or a very high performance wagon.
JMO.
