The reason for the DSG vs. MT, only one reason. Just in case I take my wife's car for the Home Depot (or similar) run. I need to leave her with a car that she can drive. I went through this before with my MT 530i Sport. I had to sell it due this this conflict alone. If a third car, it would've been a MT.

I asked the GM to delay submitting the order thus the long delivery time. This will give me time to think about a few of the choices such as color combo, ADS and prestige. I want to see the price list and buy some time to see if some of the options are released (such as Ti and/or different rim option). The salesperson wanted to submit the order yesterday but I also did not want it sitting in the port.

On the BMW M3, to be honest, I am still going back-n-forth on this one. Both are excellent cars. For me, the M3 provides more of an emotional lift. It's the combination of the engine and exhaust sound, seats, styling and feel of a RWD vehicle. The S4, for my area, is better DD.

As of yesterday, my order was the first for a MY13 S4 at this dealership. They are very curious to see the Estoril Blue in-person.

As a side note, I am currently driving a MY11 Jeep GC Overland w/ Hemi. I almost considered the new SRT8 version. This would've given me the utility plus performance. However I find it difficult to pay $61-62k for a Jeep.

They had one of those Jeeps outside at Bonneville in Manchester and it looked badass but I hear ya on the too pricey for a Jeep aspect....

congrats on the new order.

M3 drives like its on rails. Problem with BMW's, IMO, is that they seem to nickle and dime you to death on needed performance packages and even colors and inteeior design. Before you know it, the needed upgrades on an M3 puts one in the $70's. Atleast every AUDI comes with perfected (for decades) QUATRO technology and I like the feel and stability of Quatro. Remember, the S4 has the Independent wheel AWD rather than the axle.

Lets not forget that BMW interiors arent nice to look at it. I sit in a car every day. I need to be proud of an interior design. That just me

I may change the interior to black/chestnut brown as it might be a better fit for me and help hide some of the (expected) dirt. I have two Golden Retrievers who will be riding in the backseat. Even with a cover, dirt/mud will find a way.

Before concluding the deal, I also finalized a deal for a MY13 Q5. This will be for my wife and serve as the family hauler.
Congrats! Looking to order one for European Delivery with arrival in Germany in late August/September. Local dealers still say no allocation yet for me. I'm in Pasadena, CA. How did you do on pricing as the price guide doesn't seem to be out yet.

Thanks

You are correct, pricing has not be released. The GM and I agreed to $500 over invoice. I did a rough estimate based on MY12 pricing. MSRP was just over $57k.

The M3 and S4 really are not in the same class. An honest comparison in-terms of performance, features and pricing would be the RS5. The fact is an S4 provides near level of capability which is a strong compliment.

The debate over RWD vs. AWD, there is advantages to both. It comes down to personal preference. I live in the New England area but have survived with rear-driven vehicles with high HP and torque. The M-diff in the M3 is very good. AWD certainly will help when the roads are less than ideal but the offset is an increase of weight.

The interior in the S4 is good but IMO, it has lost some of the luster with newer designs out including the new A6 or F30 3-series. The older BMW (E9x series) was functional. I would even say it looked really nice with the right combination of colors and inlays. I really like the fox red w/ carbon.

The S4 is a really good car. I know my $$$ will be well spent. However, when driving the M3, it provided more of an emotional high. It's the combination of everything that makes an M car, well, an M car.

NHman how much did you put down for deposit? My dealer is asking for $2000. Seems high? Any comments from anybody else?

Thanks!

Yes, that seems high. $500 here.

Edit: At this point though any deposit is refundable no matter what the dealer tells you.
