well, its also a requirement in the US for manufacturers to provide them. I have a buddy that got pulled over in a newer bimmer because he hates the halos, turned them off and a few months later a cop pulled him and ticketed him. Talk about a petty ticket, i didn't even know they could ticket you. I thought it was just a federal requirement.

Of course we live in NJ so we may be the only state that "enforces" it.

I wasn't aware that there was any states enforcing a DRL regulation, nor is there any federal requirement that I'm aware of:

From the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety:

Quote:
Laws in Canada and many European countries require vehicles to operate with lights on during the daytime. Canada requires vehicles made after Dec. 1, 1989, to be equipped with DRLs. The European Union requires DRLS for new cars and small vans under a law that took effect in February 2011. New trucks and buses in the EU must have DRLs starting in August 2012.

No US state mandates DRLs, but some require drivers to operate vehicles with lights on in bad weather.
If I were your buddy, I sure would've fought that one in court. Unless NJ has some law on the books that nobody else does.

I think the DRL are only require in Canada, not the US. DRL is a good safety feature, turing them off is like turning off your airbags.

Well Mr. Atitude, I don'r really give a rats *** why they put them on. Its up to me whether I consider them useful.

If I think I need to be more visible I'll turn on the headlights.

If there was a law requiring DRLs, then Audi would not let us turn them off. To my knowledge Audi designs their cars to be 50-state compliant, if one state required it, then they would probably not give us the option.

There are highways in California though that do have posted signs requiring DRLs for certain specified sections. That is the only DRL related requirement in California.

The only DRL related benefit that I am aware of is that my insurance company used to provide a discount if cars insured by them were so-equipped.
