a) It sounds like you think the two are related. Not necessarily.
b) When a CEL lights up, there are hundreds of possible codes. No one can guess from what you've said. You need to go to an auto parts store and borrow their OBD reader as a starting point.

You gotta give us more than that. Could be:
1. R34 leaked out. 2. Compressor clutch is shot. 3. Compressor is shot. 4. Pressure switch is bad and won't turn switch compressor clutch on. 5. Blower motor isn't blowing. 6. Climate Control head is screwy. There are any number of things. I think you need to take this to someone with a VAG-COM and get codes. You need data and you don't have any.

You're right, I was still an hour away from the evap. And that was actually a heater core job. I left the evap in there. That was a mistake. It started leaking the next summer.
