I'm getting an average of 17-18MPH according to the car's computer at an average speed of ~30MPH (about 50/50 city/hwy).

I'm pretty disappointed with these numbers. I had a 2001 BMW before this car which got better mileage even though the EPA estimates were worse than the Audi's.

Took the car to the dealer today and asked them to have a look. Unsurprisingly, they blamed my driving. Don't know what to do next. Any suggestions?

First off, as others have indicated, don't use the car's computer - do the math yourself at each fill up and divide the gallons purchased into the miles driven since the last time you fill the tank. I've found that the car's computer usually is off about 10% either way from the factory and could be way off in your case. (There is a vag-com setting to compensate for this). I use an app called VehiCal on my iPhone to track my mpg. It can tell you your actual average mpg for every fill up over time - it never matches the car computer and that's after I adjusted the car's computer via Vag-com to get it close as possible. Miles driven / gallons purchased at fill ups is the only way to be sure of what you're getting. For that reason, I discount most claims I read about crazy high mpg numbers - unless the claimant is doing the math manually over the course of several fill ups, I don't trust what I'm hearing.

BTW, if your driving is at an average of 30mpg, you must be in suburban/urban with some traffic? If so, 19 mpg or so wouldn't be far off the mark for stop and go type driving. Add that to the likelihood your computer is not accurate (reading 10% low?) and what you're seeing on the readout could make some sense. Again, do the math vs relying on the car's computer to be sure.

70% Highway driving at 70 mph with AC on and some brief periods of rapid acceleration (how can you resist??!!) total 510 miles /19 gallon. While driving on freeways at 70 mph, computer reads 35 miles/gal. Absolutely LOVE my first Audi!

Just did my first fillup yesterday after a roundtrip of Seattle>Portland>Seattle and some city driving before that. 497 miles, took about 16.5 gallons. Car had 6 miles on it when I got it. So a bit over 30 mpg.

Comfort setting. Pleased with the mileage.
