Default 1.8t stalled & 600-800 idle - help?

Hello,

I'm fairly new here with my B5 A4 1.8TQM - Yesterday I was driving at about 20-30mph, and all of a sudden the car stalled. I tried to start it again & it would not.

There were no odd noises, high engine temp, cooling issues, or anything - it just stalled. I tried to start it and she was going, but only about 600-800 for a couple of seconds & i cut the engine off so as to avoid any potential damages...

Does anyone have an idea as to what this might be? I haven't had a chance to look @ it since last night, so I'm not sure what to think.

If it was the timing belt that went, would it be NOTICEABLE when it broke, or would it just stall the car out? Like I said, it was no way dramatic at all - just stalled... I had the fuel filter replaced about 10k ago, but I have read up on the relays going bad?

I'm so worried. I just got my exhaust flexpipe replaced this week also... so I find it odd that I have a random problem, but who knows... I don't know what to think & my stomach hurts trying to... Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Make sure you hear fuel pump kicking in when you turn your ignition switch on

the car is at the shop now, and cos my insurance took literally hours to tow it, the sun set before I could go inspect it.

i'm pretty sure that things are leaning towards a fuel issue, however does anyone know from experience - if the TB breaks, is it violent? Is it noticable?

If the tb breaks, generally your engine will be out of timing, bend your valves and will not start.

Also, when your TB breaks you will hear the engine "knock" until you shut it off or it dies. That's the pistons hitting the valves.

Default that's what I thought - GREAT NEWS -

Went down to the shop today & had them look @ things - It was the serpentine belt. Had snapped again.

NOW - the problem; is that this occurred on 3.14.12, and the shop had found the belt broken due to the pulley system being jammed.

I'm wondering, since this occurred twice - would it be wise to have the associated tensioners and pulleys replaced also w this?

Uhm, you're wondering? I dunno, try a third belt see if it snaps again?

Just FYI, your serpentine belt can snap and break into the tb cover and ruin your engine.
