Default Rough Idle and Hard Rev past 1400

Have a B5 A4 2.8. Had the battery disconnected for about a month and went to start it back up. ran rough and had to keep my foot into it to keep it going. finally got to where it idles at about 400 and shutters. thought it might be the throttle body needing aligning and so i drove it on my road for about 2 miles and it still doesnt run good. wont accelerate at all, and it seems like its missing. seems to be a popping feeling if i go past 1200 and it will miss and then finally rev up but while driving it wont accelerate normally. No vacuum leaks, and it ran perfect before this happened. Cleaned MAF today and didnt change a thing. Any suggestions? Coolant tank also is empty but no leaks. Could this all be part of an air bubble in the coolant tank?
Thanks

Me too.

Why not try doing a throttle body adjustment?

To align the TB leave the ignition ON but don't start the car. Leave it on for 2 mins.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on the year of the car, which was not given.

On the drive by cable cars, VAG-COM is required for throttle body adjustment.

It is a 99 pre facelift. 2.8. tried leaving key on, as well as turning on key, pushing accelerator in, holding for 5 seconds and then turning key off. didnt hear any clicking or whirs from the TB. any other thoughts?

None of that stuff will do anything on a drive by cable car. You need VAG-COM to run adaptation.
