Default Q5 announced with 225hp 2.0 - similar bump for A4?

Fingers crossed. Maybe tuned for better economy and more top end

That SUV needs it. It's too heavy. Out of both of our vehicles, that's the one that would benefit the most from an APR ECU update. It needs the lower end torque to move the extra weight. We love our Q5. It rides so smooth.

Horsepower is not torque. A higher HP does not necessarily mean more torque. It could mean be just a different tune. Look at the current ratings for other 2.0 turbo engines.

I would love to tell people I have more than 211 horsepower, but have never believed that 211 was the true rating. There was a recent 0-60 test in 5.6 seconds published for the A4!

I remember APR stating that they believed that the 2.0T actually put out somewhere between 220 and 230 peak hp. Audi is likely just revising the peak hp number or slightly tuning the ECU to make the 2.0T more competitive with BMW's new engine.

No bump according to audiusa.com

But who knows whether that is final or not.

I bet that's it too. If they're doing it on the Q5, really can't see a reason why not on the A4.

I think Hp ratings are a little trickier with turbocharged engines, since performance can depend on a number of variables such as air temperature and density. So I assume respectable manufacturers spec the engine for less-than-ideal conditions, which means that you will often get better performance than indicated by specs.

I doubt Audi will simply revise the number. If they change it, I suspect it is because they have tweaked the tuning a little.

I believe that the engine is substantially different in the 2013 Q5. Yes, it still is a turbo 2.0 but the exhaust manifold is now cast into the cylinder head (ala Honda) which is good for fuel economy and emissions but less so for all out torque and especially modifications. They may have also revised the cams to be a bit tamer.

What is most likely going to happen is that "quoted" HP figures go up while torque stays the same; however, real HP and torque are likely to be the same across old and new engines, if not having less power. All I can say is that my 2011 2.0T A4 clearly has a lot more sauce than just the quoted "211"

The article I read about the new Q5 said both a 225hp version and 211hp with an electric motor version.

Of course it does, because 211 is the max Hp at a single RPM. This engine has a lot more Hp at lower RPMs than your typical normally-aspirated engine, which can be deduced by its high torque number. Since you drive through a range of RPMs, what matters is the average HP you can produce in that range of RPMs, and that average is higher than most other typical engines. The average may actually be higher than engines with higher peak Hp.

Torque and Hp are fully dependent on each other: Hp = (engine rotation speed) * torque * (some unit dependent constant). When people say en engine has a lot of "low end torque", to me it is the same thing as saying it has a lot of low end Hp
