Default Not your typical PCV question...

05 B6 1.8T Quattro, fun car. PCV valve failed, crankcase breather tube failed, upper PCV hose failed. What's new?

I ordered this from ecstuning ( http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B6_A4-...Pcv/ES2214901/ ) to get things patched up.

Now, for the love of all that is Holy, how do you get the PCV Valve end into the gosh darn crankcase breather tube?!?!?!

I think I might be able to force it in there with a vice but I run the risk of breaking my new CCBT -and- it looks like it would shear the rubber o-ring right off the PCV Valve if I did it.

Help?!

I just did this recently and the only trouble I had was getting that damn clip back on. I positioned the CCBT with the O-ring on it above the hole, pushed it down & held it in with a piece of wood while my buddy put the clip back on, which holds it in place. I'm not understanding why yours won't just slide in. Are you using all the OEM plastic pieces again & they don't flex? Do you have your TB off so you can manuever the piece in there? I only took off my TB and it was a huge pain in the ***. I didn't want to take off the manifold because I didn't feel like draining any coolant. All I can say is keep angling it differnt ways & it will eventually go in.

Okay, so I reread this and now think I get what you mean. You need to heat up the one end with a heat gun to get it to go in to the T fitting. It's a pain in the ***, but it shrinks & forms a seal around it. You MUST make sure you have it in the correct position because it can't be undone. I would have recommended getting this instead: http://www.034motorsport.com/engine-...n=Laszlo%40034

I don't have a heat gun so I'll have to go get one if I want to do this.

Honestly the other thing would have been a WAY better choice and it wasn't that much more expensive than what I ordered. I would have done it if I knew it existed.

I've had my Audi for about 3 years but this is the first time I've had to work on it and there's a lot I don't know.

I may call ECS and see about returning what I ordered in favor of what you posted. Question though, what you posted is for an '03 B6 and mine is an '05 B6. Do you know a source for my model year?

Thanks for your help.

It's honestly a much better choice to get the 034 part and replace all of that crappy plastic tubing. It's just going to crumble & break again. I don't know if ECS will charge a restocking fee, I'm kind of thinking they will. This should be the correct link for the part that you need. http://www.034motorsport.com/engine-...e-p-22078.html It sounds like your didn't break where mine did, but it would be a good idea to just replace it all.

As for a good source of information and DIY, I would recommend audizine.com. That is where I go for all of my information & they are very helpful over there. There are actually a ton of links in regards to your issue. Just make an account over there (if you don't already have one) and use the search function. You'll find a ton of hits. This one has 5 different links about the issue: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...-oil-filter%29

Ha, where DIDN'T mine break would be the better statement. Broken CCBT, failed PCV valve, broken upper breather tube and God only knows what else that I haven't found yet!

What's funny is you sent that link to 034Motorsports at the same time I got reply back from Dan Eckerman over there that they didn't have one for the late model A4's! I passed him your link to see what the dealio is.

Thanks for the reference to Audizine. I'll spend a couple of hours looking over the forums tonight when I have time.

Thanks again!

The whole system really is a piece of junk. Mine started at the upper breather tube . . . and when pulling on it to see where it connected, it snapped the CCBT. The bad part is, I was just trying to do a simple valve cover gasket change! It seems to happen to almost everyone though.

Hmmm, that's weird. I'm not 100% sure that's the link they sent me (I just looked it up quick), but I did email someone from 034 when I was going to purchase one & they sent me a link. I also have a 2005.5 B6. Hopefully you provided them with a VIN & they can get it sorted out for you.

Not a problem. I hope everything works out for you & the install isn't too big of a pain in the butt! Good luck getting the clip back in, that truly was a PITA!

I thought I'd come back and update my post now that the job is done. Hopefully my pain will help some future person who finds their way to this post.

The heat gun worked really well for putting the PCV and CCBT together. Takes about 45 seconds of heat at 1500 Watts to soften it up and then it pushes right in where it belongs. Make sure you get the angle right and that you mount it facing the right direction.

The trick to getting the CCBT back where it belongs is to put a long screwdriver down through the intake manifold, assuming you left it on, put the blade on the CCBT just past the elbow on a thick part. GENTLY tap on the screwdriver handle with a rubber mallet.

What you're trying to do is push the CCBT past a small lip that is inside the throat of the crank mount. Once you push the CCBT past that lip you shouldn't have to hold it down to put the clip on. Another benefit is that it makes the clip go in very easily.

I seriously recommend that you do NOT replace the factory crap with more factory crap. Use the kit from 034Motorsports that Mueller284 linked in. Trust me when I tell you that it will far easier to install and will be far less likely to fail in the future.

Thanks to Mueller for your help and advice.
