If the Python pump has the exact same design as the VDO, how could the pump be causing that issue?

The gasket kit is on the way. I'll post back with the results (hopefully by Friday).

The new pump and seals/gaskets are in and everything seems fine. I just took it out for about ten miles and it ran great with no issues.
For anyone considering replacing just the pump and not the whole assembly, it is a PITA but if you follow the three youtube videos (see below) it is possible.

My fuel level is about 1/3 of a tank right now so I'll see how it does once it drops down close to empty.

As the guy who did the install videos suggests, it makes it much easier to put everything back together if you mark all pieces that come apart with a Sharpie.

For the fuel filter, the descriptions on this forum were a little confusing to me until I got under the car and looked around. The filter is underneath the car, in front of the passenger rear wheel. Some of the threads made it sound like it is inside the wheel well itself.

Default Sorry..

the UK location is where I got mine after spending time looking for a closer and less costly correct pump that will work (it's not in the US).
About $225, a few day wait and a few hours work and you will be back on the road.

good luck

I bought the complete assembly for my 2001, then saved the assembly and bought a UK pump and installed it, it's on the shelf for when I have a failure in the future, it will be a simple 30 minute replacement then
