Default crank lock tool 4.2

I just picked up a an '05 D3 yesterday and doing the TB service. I've done this job 4 times on facelift D2's which are the same 40v engine. I own all the tools... I cannot get the crank plug started no matter what I try. This was the hardest part of the job on the old engines but access is even worse on the D3 which doesn't help. I dropped the compressor and moved it forward to help a little.

Did they change the crank lock tool by any chance? It doesn't look like it from what I've researched. Any other angles or alternate methods? I've got the crank aligned with the TB cover and moved the crank fractionally to get it to catch. I even used my borescope to eyeball it and it looks centered.

thanks
Bob

No trick on my '04 and I did not have to move /remove any components to get to the access hole. It easily threaded in for me. Do the starting threads look good and clean with your boroscope?

They updated the tool. If you have #3242 throw it in the garbage. The updated tool is shorter and threads in first shot. That # is T40237.
