To your point, it does seem odd that an almost fully loaded 2011 wouldn't have this option. |

Have had the dual paned glass on all 3 of my A8s, and wouldn't take one without it. Not only does it provide the extra security and sound deadening aspects, but there's also an added thermal benefit which helps in cold/hot outside temp conditions to keep the car's occupants more comfortable. As indicated, a comparatively low cost option that significantly improves the ownership experience, IMO.

Longer answer--Yes, the double-paned acoustic glass is nothing more than "windshield"-type glass used for the side windows rather than a single layer of glass for the side windows. Conventional windshields (and the double-paned acoustic side windows) are constructed by laminating 3 layers of material together---glass on both sides with a layer of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) in the middle. These laminates are relatively transparent to EZ pass units and other transponders. You'll have no issues with these devices. |

Drove a A8 with and without dual pane back to back. There is a noticeable difference at highway speed. Great option for $600 IMO. Just took delivery of my car and that was one of the options on the "must have" list.
