Default 1995 90 wont crank

I let my sister in law use my 1995 90 Quattro Sport and she called today and said she was stuck. At this point all I have is some second hand knowledge but I plan on going to look at the car tomorrow and was hoping for some ideas of where to start looking.

This is what was passed on to me. She was driving and went to turn on the heat. The blower wouldn't come on so she decided to pull over and give me a call to see if it is a problem. For the record, I have had the blower not work at times but I ignored it and it always worked after a few minutes.

She said all the sudden all the electronics in the car went dead for a second, then all came back on. The car kept running ok. she pulled in to a parking lot and shut the car off. When she went to start it, it wont crank. She said she turns the key the blower, radio, interior lights and that stuff seems to work except the car never cranks.

Any ideas where to start looking. The car has a new starter that is only 6 month old. She said trying to jump the car didn't do anything.

Will a bad ignition switch cause this issue. Is there any easy guide to putting in a new switch?

Thanks

iggy switch.

Remove main cluster... swap in new switch.

also have a look at the trunk lid wire loom

My bet is the Iggy switch.

To test if that could be the problem or something along those lines, turn the car key to the on position and then short the solenoid + and the main battery + on the starter with a big screwdriver, see if it starts then (dont touch anything else). More or less that is doing exactly what the ignition switch is doing when you turn it to the start position. Just make sure that it is in neutral/park so you dont get ran over haha. This isnt the best thing to do , but it will help you eliminate some of the things the problem could be.

I would agree with Luxus on this ign. switch. But one thing everyone should know is how to pull the codes on your car... if you don't know already. This website should help you out a bit. http://www.12v.org/maintenance/dtc.php
Cheers
