Default Can I Go With This Tire?

I'm currently in the mix of upgrading my B7 from 200hp to 290HP or 300HP. I will be taking it to the 1/4 mile and I do not have a quattro. So only having from wheel drive I will loose tracking on the take off.

A friend of mine (who drag races his charger with 600HP) is telling me to go with full radial tires. If that really necessary???

I currently have a 2 spare rims that are 17" by 8" and they don't make any radial that will fit that rim size. I have found NITTO Tire NT555R (Competition tire) that will fit my rims. I have a link below please let me know if anyone has used this tire and if it will work for my application. Any other comment will be gladly appreciated as well. Thank you
