You should set the same COM port as in device manager port number. If it could not read the transponders or keys, please add an external power adaptor or do self-test:
at the software toolbar: setup -> test device -> following the tips to test. If the test is ok at last, it shows the device works fine.
I use a new blank chip to write, but it just could read the chip information and fail to write even if I connect the external 4.8V power. I realized something yesterday that I have to keep the round coil far away enough from the unit so what I do is that I take the coil about 10cm away from the unit. Suddenly the software starts to work. I have to hold the chip in a special center position to make it write, and make BMW chip from the dump and work perfectly. Now all I have to do is try it on a car. For all kind of chips read/write was also better.
The other important thing is the socket for external power this is very much misunderstood especially when you have weak USB cable from CPU the system tells you to put external power! So I could connect the external 9V for power.
