Default New Car. Baseline advise please.

Greetings all.

I inherited a 1995 A6 that just turned 40,000. The dang thing looks brand new. Pictures will follow.

My questions... What baseline work would you have done to the car? Would you bring this to an Audi dealer to perform the work?

The last indication of any work done was in 2008.

Thank you in advance for your replies!

Unless you know the timing belt service was done, you should do that service ASAP, even though the mileage is very low for a 17 year old car. Also, the brake fluid (should be changed every 2 years reagrdless of mileage.

Thank you for the reply.

Looks like the timing belt replacement is a 3 banana job.

Time to start digging around for the SST's and the "how to" web pages on belt replacement.

OR--- Would an Audi dealership be able to do this? And at what cost? I guess a phone call will answer that question...

Pictures coming shortly...

The 2.8L 12V V6 in the C4 is not that bad to do the TB maintenance service - you don't have to remove the front end. I did it on my '96 A6 Avant, and it was the first time I did a TB maintenance service on any engine. Just ensure that you use the camshaft bar and crankshaft lock pin tools as specified by Audi. If you SFTAs, you'll find detailed write–ups for this DIY service.

Yeah, the C4 Audi timing belt replacement is a piece of cake compare with the C5 Audi. I have a 1995 Audi Avant and took me about 4 hours to do the TB, water pump and all the idle rollers. Make sure you order the correct parts. There is a differnce in some years. The water pump don't have a cut out in some years and the belt is a little bit longer in some years. Also the bolt that holds the tensioner is bigger or smaller depending on the year. Get your chassis number before placing an order.
