A6 Serpentine/drive belt shredded engine won't turn over even by hand
Hi, I'll try and be as accurate as possible here! Sorry this may be quite a long post.
I've had my A6 1.8 turbo diesel for nearly 6 years and until 3 months ago no problems.
I had a gearbox rebuilt in January and all has been fine until this week.
I drove home from work and as I turned to pull onto my drive everything shut down. No steering, then engine cut and won't re start.
Managed to push onto drive.
Popped bonnet and the drive belt had shredded.
Spoke to a mechanic friend who replaced belt, new fully charged battery and checked cam belt. all seemed fine but engine still won't turn over.
When he tried to turn crank using a spanner it is solid, Like the engine is totally seized.
Oil, water all ok.
He said it may be related to the gearbox rebuild?
Anyone out there with any ideas/similar experiences would be much appreciated before I chase the gear box firm.? thanks in advance
