Default I have run out of options for a backup camera system

I have encountered a frustrating situation in my attempt to purchase and have installed an aftermarket reverse camera system in my 2012 Audi A4 Avant. My first calls were to local Phoenix, AZ area Audi dealers. Each advised that one could not be installed in my Audi because of the complexity and engineering of the OEM Nav-MMI equipment.

Next, I contacted ten area auto repair shops, five custom auto shops and twelve car audio vendor-installation shops. Many told me that they would take on a 2012 Audi aftermarket installation. Others simply never called me back as they said they would after our initial phone call.

Although I do not want to accept the fact that the Nav MMI system screen in the dash of the 2012 A4 cannot be used to display an aftermarket backup system’s video, I have run out of options.

I do not want to employ a system that displays the video on a mirror attached to the Audi’s mirror or to have a small video screen mounted to a place on the dashboard. Nevertheless, this looks to be the only present solution.

I would appreciate suggestions.

search for xcarlink on audizine. I had a shop install it for me on a non-nav 2012 avant. It can be done!

If you have Nav, it can be retro fitted. You just have to be willing to buy all the bits, a VCDS, and spend the time making it happen. If you try to get a shop to do an OEM install, you might not be successful.

There's a guy over on the AZ forums by the user name of DavidB8 that has done all kinds of retrofits to his A4. He also has a website @ http://www.audienthusiasts.com

If you don't have Nav, then you won't be able to use the OEM solution, but you can use the aforementioned carlink.

Here is where the matter is on May 4, 2012:

Last week I learned from Arizona Auto Works that NAV-TV was to market in the next two weeks a new system that just might integrate with the Audi’s OEM NAV-MMI technology. I contacted NAV-TV and asked for detailed information about this new product. Tony Yankovsky of NAV-TV immediately responded.

I found that this new product consisted of a video interface kit, high quality video camera and various proprietary cables and connectors. Best of all, it displayed the backup image on the Audi’s NAV-MMI screen. This was just what I wanted.

Now, I am waiting for the NAV-TV system to become available and the assurance that it does indeed, integrate with my Avant’s NAV-MMI screen.
