2011 CPO Cost > 2012 New?
In the market for a 2011 CPO Imola Prestige Titanium/Auto (for my wife, lucky girl), this one is a perfect match but costs more than a 2012 off the assembly line.
$60,980 / 10k miles

Is this dealer on crack or am I missing something?

Its been reported many times that it is often cheaper and better to buy a new S4 than a used one. There are many dealers out there wanting ridiculously high prices fro used s4s. Either find a new S4 on a lot or order an new one. Finance rate will be better . Mileage will be better. You can break in the engine the right way. Plus you can get what you want UNLESS you want a color that is no longer available. BTW, the dealer is delusional to think he could get that price. ESPECIALLY for Imola which is not in high demand. But it is not going to be a standard color in 2013

i have no idea where they are asking that kind of price from - by the looks of it, it doesn't even have leather (look at the drivers side door arm rest, - no sticking there. the site even says $7,345 above market. I'm sure if you went in there, and offered them $51,000 they would take it. especially if that car has been there a while.

Their service department is another story. I'll never bring one of our cars back there again. Horrible.

That dealer is right down the street from me. It's actually where my gf bought her car. They are notorious for having high priced used cars. They will not take 51k for it and would rather sit on it.

Notice that the price was marked down from $62.980 haha
Unfortunately, DrGP is right. As of 2011, used car market prices have been high in general (not just with the s4).
Has to do with the economy -- three years ago (~2008-2009), there was a decrease in new car sales and leases. As a result, there are now less used cars on the market, along with more people keeping their relatively new cars. Not to mention more people wanting to buy used (since traditionally, its financially savvier).
On the flip side, new car prices, as we've seen with the s4, are actually quite low (relatively speaking). Most owners here were able to get close to invoice prices.
To put things into perspective, few weeks ago, I saw a nicely equipped, CPO, low mileage (~5k), 2010 prestige for 50k (one of the more 'reasonable' prices I've seen). Probably MSRP would've been 60k (using the Audi website as a reference). From posts I've seen, people probably could've custom ordered one exactly to spec (new), for as low as 55k, depending on incentives, negotiating, etc.
So in the end, you are talking about a 9% price difference on a 3 year old car! Could you make the argument that 5 years later, if sold, the now new 2012 car, with 1 buyer, newer MY, x miles on it, and full warranty (at no extra cost), would be worth as little as 10% more than its now used counterpart after the same 5 years? I think so...
(P.S. Car was sold a week after the ad went up haha)
Anyway, after looking at the used b8 s4 market for months now, I'm realizing a used CPO may not be the smartest thing if the prices don't go down.
Maybe this will change in the summer, when the 2013 (facelift) model comes out, or maybe by the end of the year, when more s4 leases end and more used cars, in general, are available.
That or you will be able to get an even better deal on a new 2012!

Good insight and info on this dealership, thanks! I've got 5 months (wife is due in September) to watch the CPO market and sell my motorcycle to buy a 2nd car. If Imola was a standard color in 2013 it would be easier to justify a new one.
Ps, anyone want a Suzuki Hayabusa? It will save you money, you won't feel the need to mod anymore after you open this thing up on the highway...... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/mcy/2915489414.html
