Default Audi Reliable? Lots Of Work?

Hello Everyone.

I have been a huge fan of Audis. There Sexy and Fun to drive. However what I'm wondering is if they are reliable? I have a couple friends of mine and they are always fixing there A4s. However they tell me it is just them improving the car.

Do things in the car brake often?

Right now I have a BMW and it has been good however I kind of feel like something a little different :-)

If your coming from a BMW to Audi you shouldn't feel much of a difference. Toyota to Audi yes. Huge difference. Try the 1.8t and try to get a manual if possible it will be more reliable. Also the bimmer and Audi share the same auto tranny so you should have some expirence with the transmission.

Agree on similar to BMW for maintenance needs, but the 2.8 30v is a more reliable engine. Find one with a manual tranny would be great, but the auto tranny in the B5 is quite good. Doesn't have the issues of some of the other Audi trannys.

Yes. im sorry i thought this was the b6 thats why i didnt suggest of the 2.8 i didnt want to suggest the 3.0 with all its problems.

the 2.8 is as reliable as it gets. the auto is good but can have some problems in the torque converter (or is that just applicable to the 2.7?)

My B5 has required a ton of work, but not on the engine or trans... On the other hand, its got 206k on it, so not complaining - the Body and interior are holding up practically like new.

My B6 I bought new, and other than mod related issues has been very reliable. in 110k, I've had to do coil packs, under hood plastics and hoses, and accessory belt idler and tensioner. I like the size and feel of the B5 better, but I think the B6 is a better car.

MY A4 has been pretty good for a 16 year old car, suspension parts go. I've replace each control and tie rod at least once, fixed the gas tank sending unit once, put new bushings in the back suspension, replaced 3 of the 4 calipers, replaced the hoses and vacumun lines and the regular maintence things. not bad in 134K miles. body is now just starting to rust but I live in the snow belt where they use alot of salt, I've own the car for 12 years. it's a kids car now ....

I bought my '96 2.8 with 125,000 miles and no service history. It's got about 221,000 now, and I am just getting around to changing the timing belt/pump/rollers. With who knows how many miles on them, this is not very wise. The belt looks like new, pump seems like it would go more miles, but the tension adjustment roller was like an accident waiting to happen. It's dry and noisy and the bearing doesn't feel all that good. All-in-all this car has been very reliable and comparatively inexpensive to maintain.

Default Looking to buy A4

Hey guys, first post here. So unfortunatey I no longer have my 04 Mazda 3 but it's ok. Looking for something different. So. Should I get a B5 or B6? A B5 is more in my budget. I like the 1.8t. I wanna be able to do alot to it. Not turbo or anything but i wanna make it look awesome. And some b5s i seen are awesome. Any thoughts?
