Really got me thinking. Will most likely still go ahead with the tinting but will visit a couple of shops first to see who I really like/trust. Recommendations welcome.
Is this an Audi thing or solely an A6 issue with the too much water messing things up? Maybe we all could just ask the A4 guys (or any car other than the A6) and see where they have gotten their tints done at. There's def an S4 at work that has a nice tint job, could probably ask him.

35 all the way around. . . love it. . . if i had better night vision 20 would look better but do question functionality. . .
I'm in socal and had it done at Campbells in Huntington Beach. Fantastic, very professional. Had a couple of Lambo's and 911's getting done too. . . . Whole different world. . .

Getting swamped at work and home. Wife is out of town and barely do anything except running like a chicken between the two. I so want to get it done...not given up..might visit a couple of shops this weekend. Discovered all shops nearby use different company tint...and recommend between 35/40/50 depending upon what they carry. Almost feel like taking a chance on 40 all over instead of 50/35.

I have always had my cars tinted. My 04 A8L has 35% on the sides. I elected not to tint the rear window as I think this is what can draw the Cops to take a second and third look. The A8 has a very deep rear deck and the headrests take up about half the window. You cannot tell the back window is sans tint unless you are very close to the car, it looks fine.
Also, if you are worried about the price, the rear window can cost 40$-50$ alone. Look at it this way, if you don't like the look, you can always get it done.

$200 sounds very fair for 5 windows.
ask about a warranty

Just my 2cents

I have 40% all over with Llumar CTX. I have tan seats and it looks VERY minimal. Even at night, I can see clearly inside and outside. Actually 40% CTX is 43% light transmittance.

50% would be too light in front versus 35% in back. The stark difference has an unfinished look to it. It looks more ghetto and not classy in my eyes.

My installer said the same thing that ONE shade, no matter what level, should surround the car.

This car has 40% CTX but the dark seats (and sun angle and camera he's using) make it look much darker than what it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o1oxSiVkv0

I think 40% is the perfect compromise of some good level tint, and staying off the police radar since it's light enough for cops to see inside all the way around. My installer and many clients have 40% and have never been pulled over (CA).

Not my car, but 40% CTX, and at night is not a problem.

xradman: where did you get your tint done at? I am starting to lean more towards 40% instead of 35% all around and it seems like it is pretty hard to find an installer that offers 40%.

dc metro: what shops have you contacted? I compiled a small list of pricing from about 5 different shops if you want to compare pricing with me.

If you want the Llumar stuff and looking for the installers that offer 40%, go to the Llumar website and look at the certified installer list in your area. You should be able to narrow down a installer that offers 40%.

I got mine done at California Tint in Tyson's Corner. The tint is Johnson Window Film's InsulatIR 40% ceramic tint.
