I took a few mins today to mess with the heater core hoses and there's no room to pull them off. Do you have to remove the blower next to the hoses in order to free up some room? How did you remove the hoses to flush it?

My dad fixed my car with no heat and it had to do with a little electronic piece (blend door motor) that when he cleaned etc it fixed the problem. On my a6 it is in the engine compartment, at the firewall and he had to take off the wipers etc to get to it. It was on the right side (drivers) on the heater box or something like that. Good luck..

Trace the hose from the heater core and remove it at the engine firewall, this will be a lot easiler. Also since you did an earlier flush; did you have heat before the flush? If the answer is yes then you have air in the system.

No, I didn't have heat before the flush. That's why I flushed it. I was hoping the flush will restore the heat. I was thinking the same thing, to remove the heater core hoses from the engine side.
How do you bleed the coolant system anyway? I only see one bleed hole at the heater core hose (top one at the wall). Is there another bleeder at the front of the engine like the 2.7T engines? |

I did just that. Removed the hoses at the engine side and flushed it. I HAVE HEAT! Too bad I don't need the heat anymore since the weather is warmer. Maybe during cold mornings. I'm sure it's still a little bit clogged because the heat is not as hot as my C5 A6, but it's about 90% there. I'm satisfied. Thanks!

Did you even check the heater valve under the plastic windshield tray? When your heater control is above LO vacuum holds the gate open for coolant to flow, if you have a vacuum leak or the plastic lever broke the door is shut, coolant cannot flow into your core.

Yup, checked that. I replaced the vac hose a few weeks ago. Anyhow, the heat works 100% now. I guess the flush did the trick. When I'm flushing it, the water isnt coming out at the same rate that it's going in so I'm guess its still a little clogged. I also filled the coolant system with fresh clean coolant. After a short drive, I can see that the coolant has turned a dirty pink color almost slight brown with tiny bits of sediments. It must be coming from the clogged heater core or radiator.
On the other hand...still have over heating and brake issues. That's another post. LOL One thing at a time. |
