Well that could certainly put me in a 2012 versus a 2013.

Unfortunately my dealer can't keep A8's in stock.
They even sold two white ones this spring and you can hardly give white vehicles away here anymore.
Which seems odd in the South, where they were all the rage 10 years ago...

Other than performance characteristics and longevity, is there any other real advantage to ceramics ?
Pardon my ignorance - I never have been terribly up to speed on 'performance' type items.

There is a huge advantage for Ceramic brakes on the track ... they resist heat better, thus resist fade better and offer a higher level of performance than standard brakes in that sense.

For a vehicle like the A8, or even the S8, where you really aren't very likely to see much track use, they are overkill. And while they may "last" longer than standard rotors, the replacement cost is staggering. Also, there is a certain squeaking element on most cars with ceramic brakes that while you can live with on a Ferrari, would probably become very annoying on a daily driver.

My dealer just had a new demonstrator in this week. It has the 360 degree camera view.

There's a camera just above the number plate at the front (not sure what's been done at the rear), you can choose in the MMI to view front left or front right vs rear left or rear right.

He said it was very cool .... especially as there are no additional sensors on the side of the front bumpers.

I'll have to pop over and take a look soon. I guess they are still tweaking the MY2012

technically, you could save some fuel as the ceramics are lighter. But spending that much more on them probably negates the savings.

Jet, my 2012 A8L is due at my dealer next week (ordered in mid-January). You're leading me to believe my vehicle may also be equipped with the 360 degree camera view feature. Wonder what the build date for your dealer's vehicle is? Could you ask, please?

Doubtful that your 2012 will have the top view camera---it's going to be part of an optional package for 2013 on A8 NWB and LWB V8 models in the U.S. (Camera Assistance Pkg)---will be standard on the S8.

Good news...there will definitely be a V8 for the A8 in 2013 (and it will be a beast)---It hasn't been announced officially yet, so I can't really say much more on this at the moment, but look for something new that has previously been speculated about on this forum ;^)

So reading between the lines, maybe we'll be getting 4.2L FSI V8 with RS4 or RS5 tune meaning 414-444 HP or is it going to be 400+ HP turbo or supercharged 4.0L?

I'm trying to be circumspect here, but it won't be 4.2.

soo.... makes sense to use something that's already "there", either a 4.0 twin turbo tuned to S6/7 levels or a plunge into the dark with a new engine.

hmmm

Meanwhile, here's a clip of mine I found on the interweb (crank up the volume to hear the bass - on top of the diesel rat-a-tat-tat!).
