There is a huge advantage for Ceramic brakes on the track ... they resist heat better, thus resist fade better and offer a higher level of performance than standard brakes in that sense.
For a vehicle like the A8, or even the S8, where you really aren't very likely to see much track use, they are overkill. And while they may "last" longer than standard rotors, the replacement cost is staggering. Also, there is a certain squeaking element on most cars with ceramic brakes that while you can live with on a Ferrari, would probably become very annoying on a daily driver. |

My dealer just had a new demonstrator in this week. It has the 360 degree camera view.
There's a camera just above the number plate at the front (not sure what's been done at the rear), you can choose in the MMI to view front left or front right vs rear left or rear right. He said it was very cool .... especially as there are no additional sensors on the side of the front bumpers. I'll have to pop over and take a look soon. I guess they are still tweaking the MY2012 jet |

technically, you could save some fuel as the ceramics are lighter. But spending that much more on them probably negates the savings.

Doubtful that your 2012 will have the top view camera---it's going to be part of an optional package for 2013 on A8 NWB and LWB V8 models in the U.S. (Camera Assistance Pkg)---will be standard on the S8.

soo.... makes sense to use something that's already "there", either a 4.0 twin turbo tuned to S6/7 levels or a plunge into the dark with a new engine.
hmmm Meanwhile, here's a clip of mine I found on the interweb (crank up the volume to hear the bass - on top of the diesel rat-a-tat-tat!). http://youtu.be/3p4gfd-pp5U |
