It comes with the 7 pin socket in place already. All you need is the adapter from 7 pin to whatever pin layout you use to your harness and the ball hitch.

It also comes pre-wired for the electronic brake controller up front under the dash. Everything is integrated into the MMI as well...automatically turns off the back sensors, turns off the side assist (they DO NOT turn back on when disconnected!!) and has different idiot lights in the instrument cluster to show the trailer is hooked up. Pretty cool.

I run a 2011 TDI Q7 prestige.. (wanted to vented seats) and pull my featherlite trailer and Porsche TT on it. Pulls great. About 22 MPG. I have about 15K on it so far. You will have to purchase the actual plug on your rig. The dealer has it. You would think the "Towing Package" would include the female plug for a 7 way but it doesn't. I made a big deal out of it and the dealer put it on for no charge. I had one hell of a time getting the electric brake controller hooked up. No one wanted to touch it. I did pull my trailer with out the electric controller. No problem at all. With the aluminum trailer and Porsche it doesn't weigh much.
The only problem I have had so far is the wire to the trailer popped out while in motion. I noticed it when I didn't see any lights going through a tunnel. I zip cord it now. Also, if you plug in the trailer with the vehicle running already it seems to cause some confusion with the lights. turn everything off, plug in the trailer and all is well... I also have a Dodge 3/4 ton pickup. The Audi is hands down the preferred pulling vehicle. I just brought my twin turbo back from Ohio and roll up those hills in WV at 70MPH trailer and all. ... Word is that Porsche is going to sell a diesel... I may convert to go with all Porsche.... Who knows.. |

I'm considering a Q7 TDI for my next vehicle but am concerned about its towing prowess. How much does your loaded trailer weigh? Thanks for your help.

VERY nice! Shopping for a Q7 with tow pkg myself to tow my admittedly slower "TT" and transport Grandsons :-)

My 2010 Q7 with the towing package came prewired at the hitch, but I had to provide the 7-pin electrical socket. Simple installation. Remove the cover plate and plug the wiring into the back of the socket and mount the socket using the same screws as the cover plate. A 5 minute job.
Seems like it's something the dealer should have done during pre-delivery, but they didn't.
