Default 87 89 91 Octane Differences?

I have a A4 B5 1.8T 2000 tiptronic

normally I use 87 octane obviously because its the cheapest.

will using 91 octane make a difference in Speed or Acceleration?

All I care about is if it will help with making the car go faster.

Also i've heard it reduces ping, but how often does an engine ping...

and would a ping really affect speed, acceleration?

my engine was just taken apart, cleaned and put back together with new parts in perfect condition.

Higher octane fuel is a MUST for the turbo cars. The high compressed air mixture will cause dangerous pinging under any kind of load. Of course, the ignition system will pick up on it, and retard to timing way back, causing a very noicable loss of power and fuel economy.

Higher octane fuel is more resistant to burning from other sources other than spark. High compression and turbo engines will cause the lower 87 fuel to ignite before it is suppose to from the compression. You can imagine the pistion traveling upwards suddenly having an explosion trying to force it down is VERY VERY hard on internal comonents. a small ammount of pinging is alays going to happen untill the knock detection can retard the timing way back to compensate. So no, its not "just fine" to run regular.

You bought an audi. Not a ford taurus. If you wanted somthing cheap and you can treat cheap go buy somthing else.

in a nut shell yes.

it will make it faster, more economical, and will cause less problem later on. the difference b/w reg and premium is about 30 cents i usually fill up 13 gallons of gas so there a difference of 4 dollars. dont treat your car less just for 4 dollars. it WILL end up costing you a pretty penny.
not to mention our cars give better MPG on premium so it ends up being cheaper any way you look at it.
if you decide to use premium reset your ecu that will help alot with the fuel economy.
