Default 1.8T with CVT - power levels and longevity

A friend of mine has 2005 A4 1.8T CVT.
I have no experience with CVT trans.
How does performance compare to TIP or manual?
What longevity can be expected?
What are the week points and failure indicators?
How much power can the CVT handle? K04 turbos?

Any input, links, etc. are appreciated.
