Default Want a chip for my UR S6 Avant but do not want to make turbo lag (Low end) worse?

What is the best chip that wont affect my low end lag? I drove an S6 with a chip about 10 years ago and remember that the low end was worse (Starting in 2nd gear on a rolling stop sign) but of course the top end much better. My shop is suggesting a chip from CA that he says wont affect low end and might actually make it better? It is a Stage 1 (He did not mention MTM) and wont require tuning so it is a "plug and Play" installation $1200.

Any suggestions on chips for this car? 95 S6 Avant

Run, Forest, Run. Your mechanic is trying to rape you. $1200. LOL. Yikes. He doesn't know anything about UrS-cars and is trying to rip you off.

Try MRC through Chips-Ur-S.com or Intended Acceleration or even 034. Hey, you are in Colorado, go to Steve Eiche in Arvada (Shadetree Software). Around $500 including a VMAP (3.0 Bar MAP) sensor so you will be Stage 1+ (around 270-280 hp).

Wow. That quote came from Auto Sport Works in Broomfield around $1200. Are they not the best folks my car?

I will visit with your suggestions locally

I will second the suggestion that you use Alex at Intended Acceleration. I have Alex's Stage 3+ ECU with the 3 bar sensor update and am running 26 lbs max boost and have had nothing but brilliant experiences with Alex.

http://www.intendedacceleration.com/

A lot of people have used them and I have never heard anything but praise.

ASW should know the UrS-cars (well they used to but the people who did know them might have moved on).

If the $1200 quote was only for ECU removal and chip socketting and chip installation they are about $700 too high.

Here is Steve Eiche's contact info through Shadetree:

I have a Stage 1+ and its great for rolling through stop signs in 2nd gear.
Its also great on the highway for getting up to the speed-limiter quickly without having to downshift.
Its a Hoppen chip, but only cost about $700.

Hoppen still sells real MTM chips. However, they have dropped the old "Stage 1" and renamed the old "Stage1+" (with the 3.0 Bar MAP sensor) the new "Stage 1". Price is $795.

Thats exactly what I have. In fact, when I got the new S6, I sent them back down to Florida with the new S6 cpu, and Mike added the socket and installed them for me and sent it right back. They had been in my S4.

Here's a picture of what they look like...

I also recommend the "Reliability Items" below if you dont have them already, or something comparable. The 110 Sport By-Pass Valve is an upgrade over the original, and the K&N filter helps airflow and lasts.

You're also likely to blow a hose with a Stage 1+ kit, if they are originals, I blew 2. Most kits contain 3 silicone hoses for ~$350. The 2 hoses Hoppen shows are the 2 hoses I eventually blew. 034 sells them individually also.

Highly UN-recommend the K&N filter. Not effective at removing dust and grit. Not a major intake restriction in a turbo engine. Risk of over-oiling and contaminating and damaging the MAF. Go new OE paper filter. Better/less risk.

I could not agree more, in fact I've been told that the Mahle flows better than the K&N. At $12 there is hardly a reason to use anything else given the risk (and the lack of reward).

To answer your earlier question about lag, Ned and Alex's 3+ ECU update reduced lag on my car. Going to a stiffer WG spring and the billet diverter also helped things (although the diverter only helps if you're shifting well).
