i dont think this is true. I Have drivin a few cvt A4's, 1.8T Quattro cars. They had the tiptronic thing with 6 "preset" ratios. You would floor it and the rpms would go up to about 5k and stay there, it really moved! No shifting, just smooth flow.

I'm wearing out my second CVT now at 72k miles (first one was replaced at 51k under warranty)

Both then and now, it didn't jerk or anything - it simply started to slip. Again, it does it - the motor will rev higher than it used to and the power just doesn't make it to the ground. I won't be replacing this one quite yet..

It's weird, but using the manual mode, it shifts like a champ and is fast as hell so I've decided to baby it until it does the same thing as last time - it felt like it had no power AT ALL. Then I'll drive it in manual mode for a couple years until it fails and probably buy a newer Audi.

As much as I hate the problems, nothing compares to this car on the road - not a single 2012 that I've driven. 10 years old and even though it feels worn out to me, i'm reminded of the refinement and drive quality when I drive anything but a much more expensive german car or newer Audi.

Actually, steveracer is correct; if it is a quattro, it is NOT a CVT. CVTs only came in fwd. Also, the CVT is not compatible with transverse installed engines (most VWs and the A3), only longitudinal. Quattros came only with manual (5 speed for 02, 03, and some 04; 6 speed for the rest of the 1.8t) or tiptronic, which is a fancy automatic.
