Default 1980 URQuattro and 1983 Treser Quattro and a Hello...

Hello Audi World!

I just acquired 2 Quattros: Silver 1980 Eurospec urquattro and a 1983 Treser Quattro. They are both in non-working condition and I am trying to bring them back one at a time. I will start with the silver one first. It has been garaged for about 10+ years now. The red one seems more beat up, with some rodent activity inside.

I would really appreciate any information/recommendations on how to get parts, Audi specialists in NJ area etc. I am currently trying to locate a throttle cable. And I can not even talk to the parts guy at the dealership as he claims he can not run a euro VIN on the system. It looks like the fun begins now.

Quattros album:

Long URL hey but good prompt service and some new OEM and replica parts interior, exterior and Mech.

Good luck.

Long story...My roommate in college was a huge fan and he bought the silver one back in the day. Then, I remember seeing the red one at a dealer when we were driving by in the silver one. He jumped the gun and got that too (cars were about 10 years old). Since then, he has kept them. Then he got busy with his business that he was not able to tinker with them anymore. He recently had a life changing event that required him to get rid of them. So, I got involved and after a few trips to the rent-a-trailer places in the weekends, I have officially taken over the projects.

I also inherited some manuals, and VAG shop manuals on microfiche (in German). I am beginning to dig through it, but I am not a trained mechanic or anything, and this is more of a hobby. I'll try to post some more pics soon.

First things first, I suppose I will drain the fuel, check the lines, change fluids etc (although Mobil 1 should last forever)...And tackle why the engine won't start.

A few of us have a group of very knowledgeable Audi guys in PA that know a bit about these cars.
I'm always passing through NJ what part are you in? Nice cars you have there and maintaining two UR's is quite the undertaking.

Thanks. I am not in a hurry. More or less waiting for the weather to get a bit warmer to dig in. I am in Montclair (Essex County). Going to look into the silver one first, and I will try to "keep it real." I have an "R&A Applied Arts" key chain and tag on the car. So, if I get really stuck I might head over there. But waiting for some savings to build before I do that... :-)

I know I need some exhaust work (new exhaust or fixed up exhaust). For starters...I can see the tape covering the holes...

Cool, NJ is a big place, In 2004 took mine to a place on New York ave in Newark but the place might have changed hands, but they still might have more vintage knowledge that a regular shop. Does the silver one have a current NYS inspection sticker - it looks red i.e. current.

yeah give me a shout in the warmer months would love to lend a hand / take a look at the cars. I just had a stainless full exhaust put on a coupe GT in PA that sounds amazing. It was fairly priced at $450 installed.

I recently saw an '82 Euro grey market car for sale about an hour from nyc for sale. It had lot's of euro goodies but was sadly rusted out on the under carriage only. Body was in decent shape. Anyway, the seller had a huge folder of service receipts from R&A Applied from the 90's. He easily spent more on the car in maint than he bought the car for. But R&A did a lot of work on these cars back then.

The reg sticker on the silver one is from 1993. The red one is from 97.
Actually, I did some research about r&a applied arts and it looks like they went out of business a few years back. I found a specialist in Armenia, ny. But, I am kind of broke at the moment so I am going to tinker a bit first. It would be great to connect with other quattro fans, so if you are in the area and wanna join in tinkering or if you just wanna check them out just pm me and we'll set something up. Spring is almost here.

Greg at Autofirme is one of the best around for the early cars for sure.
Of course shop time is quite high on these cars. Another shop that I know has maintained a few local URQ's is Bruno's Audi/VW in Queens, NY.
Andy is a great guy. I haven't been there in a while but I think it's still there. I have a really great tech that works out of York, PA.
He's very reasonable and young but is a few hours from you. Would be great to check out your cars I'll send you a PM.
