I can hear a little noise around the pump with the hood open, not so much when the hood is closed. I understand the thermodynamics of the pump. I looked at the pump a little more today. What I will do is when I do my next oil service I will look at the rack and hoses to see if they are resonating through the body mounts and into the car. The more I hear it the more I want to correct it. My Junkxus had issues with the brake booster being noisy in the car. They changed the booster twice, same noise. I corrected it with Dynamat. The whine sound seems to be amplified by the body of the car. I will keep working at it as time permits. The Q is only driven once in a while. (It did go to Florida in December). Great ride. No whine at speeds over 45 mph.

Likewise - whine is gone approaching f'way speeds. Will look forward to the tweak details if the dynamat solution works

I noticed this whine and brought it my dealer - Legend Audi in Amityville. I have a 2012 Q5 2.0T with 2500 miles.

At first they said it was the water pump, gave me a loaner car, and had the car a few days. When I picked up the car today, the advisor said they replaced the power steering pump instead as that was where the noise came from. It was $691 to replace, which Audi paid for as the car is under warranty.

Got the car back today and will drive around tonight to see if that fixed it. I have a feeling it didn't.

Is the whine gone after the pump was replaced?
I checked my power steering pump when changing he oil and found the noise is coming from the alternator area. I have to spend more time Checking. I will mention it to the service writer when they perform the TSB on he heated seats. I will report back when I have more info.

I have a whistling noise on my Q5 2.0T as well and I'm not sure whether this is the same noise you guys are describing. The noise on mine sounds like a cricket chirping. It is very clear inside the cabin but it can hardly be heard outside due to the engine noise. The noise is more pronounced in cold weather and after driving for a while it slowly fades and eventually disappears. I have been to the dealer a few times and they said it was the power steering. So far they have replaced the pump twice and also the steering rack, but the noise is still there. I have more or less given up and just try to live with it at the moment.

At least your dealer tried to replace something. Mine just blamed the power steering engineering and said its normal. Still drives me crazy every time I drive. Sad cause its the only thing I do not like about the Q.

I'm hoping for a fix one day :sigh:

Any news or updates on a fix for this? I am bringing my car in next week for 8k service and will be mentioning this. It is very noticeable at low speeds ( whine varies in pitch with speed even if accelerator not pressed ) quite annoying !

Transmission also seems a bit jerky at very low speeds.
