Well, I tend to agree with him
![]() but that's just one man's humble opinion and I wouldn't want to stop anyone from spending their money after much thought . BUT, it's MY money they are spending since MILLIONS of tax dollars subsidized this enviro panic. The US is exporting more and more refined oil now... and last I heard our refineries are running at less than 80%.... Allow drilling and the pipeline from Canada and gas prices will plummet

Those were pretty tasteless comments. Is his opinion of the Nissan Leaf the same?
Yes, Diesel engines are fuel efficient, but can be really noisy. I like that electric motors are essentially silent. |

No issues here, I tend to agree with him. I would have bought diesel in a heartbeat, if it were available.
Anyone surprised than the MSN author got his panties in a bunch?

The US DOT is already evaluating "noise makers" for electric vehicles to protect idiot pedestrians. Hot coffee and silent engines are apparently very dangerous to the 1%.

The author forgot a few points:
- diesel cars much cheaper then electric cars. Chevy has much better profit on selling one Volt then selling one diesel car. Plus part of the profit is subsidized by my tax dollars. - Electric cars carry electric battery which stores as much energy as fuel tank. In case of accident this energy can be released in form of fire. People learned how to protect fuel tanks from accidents. I think there is still way to go in protecting batteries. - Average car stays on road for 10-15 years. Average LiIon battery loses 50% efficiency in 2 years. And battery cost a lot to replace. - Each battery takes a lot of non-renuvable resources and a lot of energy to produce. And latter it needs to be properly disposed. - All electric motors in the cars are built on the rare-earth magnets. 90% of rare-earth metals produced by China and they can easily corner the market. Moreover there will be serious shortage of rare earth metals if electric cars will go mainstream. Also the author is very misleading when he states that renuvables become major sources of electricity. This is BS. The windmills are there for show. There is not much electricity coming from the windmills. If Greenpiece will have it their way and make all electricity come from the windmills, they will kill tons of birds and change windpaterns. I guess they will blame corporations for this and scream to chage it again. I saw it before: people use hydro power stations. Greenpeace screams that it kills fish. people use nuclear stations. Greenpeace screams about nuclear dangers. people use coal stations - Greenpeace screams about CO2 emissions. I say ignore Greenpeace.

Yep, there's more to the story behind what it takes/cost to make Electric cars.
Has there been a realistic estimation of when oil(gasoline) supply will run out? |
